Formal Complaint Process

If negotiations with the utility company fail to solve the problem, a formal complaint may be filed with the Public Service Commission. A formal complaint is a written complaint in which evidence is presented supporting a customer's position. The utility company then has an opportunity to respond, and the Public Service Commission rules on the matter.

If the Public Service Commission finds that rules have been violated, it will order the utility to correct the problem. The Public Service Commission, however, does not have the authority to grant monetary damages to customers.
